The Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalay, Udgir was established in 2001 under the aegis of Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Prasarak Mandal and affiliated with Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded.The primary intention for establishing the college was to open the doors of Science and technology specifically in Bio-technology, Computer and Information Technology, Media and Journalism, Library and Information Science and skill based higher education to therural, economically weaker, upstarts, SC/ ST/ OBC, and SBC students of Udgir territory. The college was started initially with 15 students and a few teachers, now more than 500 studentsare getting a quality education in Science and technology.
